About

Hello — I'm the one behind the camera

I started photographing weddings because a friend asked me to, ten days before hers, and I said yes before I'd thought about it. That was eight years and around two hundred shoots ago. Somewhere in there it stopped being a favour and became the work.

Most of what I do is documentary in spirit. I'd rather wait for something true than arrange something pretty, so you'll find me at the edge of the room more often than in front of you. When direction helps — a family group, a headshot, a product on a table — I'll give it clearly and quickly, then get out of the way again.

How a day with me goes

I arrive early and quiet. I learn names. I look for the light before I look for the shot. If something's running late, I'll tell you what we can drop without you losing anything that matters. Nobody has ever had to be photographed for longer than they wanted to be.

The gear, briefly

Two full-frame bodies, fast primes, and enough lighting to save an indoor ceremony in November. Everything is backed up to two cards in-camera and to two drives before I sleep.

You are hiring a person for a day of your life. It should feel like having someone helpful around, not a stranger with a lens.

Outside the work

I make long walks into an excuse for landscape work, print my personal projects badly on a home printer, and answer email faster than most people expect.

If you'd like to talk through a shoot, the enquiry form is the fastest way to reach me, and the FAQ covers most of the practical questions.

Let's talk about your shoot

Tell me the date and the idea. I'll be straight with you about whether I'm the right person for it.
